Continuous renaming filename with numbers

Hello all,

I have filename with numbers started with 1 to 2 digits and 3 digits

[Test][1] mp4 > Test1 mp4
[Test]]20] mp4 > Test20 mp4
]Test][100] mp4 > Test100 mp4

I have been using it for multiple times. Now updated my version to 4.19 and it unable to rename above anymore.

How to continue rename filename numbers when I have numbers previously?

[Test][1]-[160 mp4] > Test1-160 mp4.

Hi x,

Not sure I understand what you are asking. Are your files actually named like "]Test][100].mp4"? I'm assuming you left out the dot (period), because an mp4 file probably doesn't work without it. Also you didn't say what method(s) you used, so I can't really comment on why it won't work in 4.19.

If that's the way your files are named, though, one replace method will do it:

Replace: [\] (no spaces)
With: (nothing)
Regex: no

EDIT: I looked at your post again and that last filename example made me think I don't understand your problem. Can you post some ACTUAL filenames so I know what you are trying to do? And what method(s) you were using, too. Actually, a screenshot would probably be best.

Good luck,
DF

Hi DF,

I did not enter the dot and filetype as to make an example. My filenames are named Test100.mkv.

Previously I used version 3 and it works on my renaming. It does not work after updated to 4.19. I placed my files into it and edit one of the filename by using <Inc Nr:1> to increase the numbers. Changed 1 to 100 and clicked Ok to proceed. It gave me the result of 9 errors on Possibility of multiple files with the same name.

This is the screenshot I captured: https://imgur.com/a/tWaHI8u

I can't see imgur for some reason, maybe because of my vpn, I don't know. But that error is when a file you are renaming is trying to claim a name already used. If you try to rename a file to a name already used on another file in the same directory you will always get that error, no matter which version. Try reversing the file order (click on the "Filename" column header) and see if that fixes it. If not, try clicking on the date column headers, often one of those will clear up the problem. Another way to fix the situation is to make sure the range you are renaming TO is outside the current range of numbers; i.e., if the largest number is 100 start the <inc nr> at 101.

Sorry if this doesn't help; if not maybe someone else here can help clear this up.

Best,
DF

We wouldn't want to presume. ;P

Hi xhappyending!

It's still very unclear, to me, as to what you are trying to do. But I see a few problems from that picture.
You've manually overridden all of the filenames and then tried to apply an unsafe pattern for the fail-safe "Name collision rule".

Please *** restart Aren *** and then:

A) Use the "Undo" feature/button in the upper-right to reverse any unwanted changes if you can and need to.

B) Do not use the the name override (F2) feature! Think of it as like a backup parachute. To be used as a last resort on rare occasions.

C) I strongly recommend setting the "Name collision rule" to "fail" and then adjusting your Renaming methods to clear any naming problems that come up.
Think of this rule as like your body armor. It can save your skin in emergencies but if it does, you've messed up. ;)

As for what you are actually trying to do, please give ***EXACT before and after examples***, and then we can help you more.

For example do you want?

Scheme A:
Test100.mkv -> Test100.mkv
Test101.mkv -> Test200.mkv
Test102.mkv -> Test300.mkv

Scheme B:
Test100.mkv -> Test100110.mkv
Test101.mkv -> Test101110.mkv
Test102.mkv -> Test102110.mkv

Something else?

Randy

Hi DF,

I do have Test100.mkv and I would like to change the filename to Test101.mkv onwards. I tested Test<Inc Nr:101>.mkv and it gave me the result of all 10 files Test101.mkv with Error of Possibility of multiple files with the same name.

Hi Randy,

The filename in the picture link is Test for testing. I do change the name to different name as I got the files. I tested on previous version, version 3.95 and it works on renaming with both names and increasing of number. Blurred with current version 4.19 and it giving me both Scheme A and B stated by you. I am trying to set as below.

Scheme C:
Test100.mkv -> Testing101.mkv
Test101.mkv -> Testing102.mkv
Test102.mkv -> Testing103.mkv

Thanks and Regards,
x

Hi x,
I'm referring to Imgur picture and your last post: have you tried to use the new name method, inserting in the new name field the following: Testing<Inc Nr:101>?
See the picture: https://i.postimg.cc/RVWYysfd/Img119.png

Another way is to use two methods: the 'Renumber' method and the 'Replace' method. Firstly, add the 'Renumber' method as shown in the following picture:

You will see errors for file names that already exist, but after adding the 'Replace' method to replace 'test' with 'testing', all errors will disappear:
