Error message when renaming files

Hello,
I am encountering an error message when renaming files.
Currently, I have 31 files named:
01-05-2026 Sportsingel up to 31-05-2026 Sportsingel.

The intention is to rename these to June, for example:
Old name: 01-05-2026 Sportsingel
New name: 01-06-2026 Sportsingel.

However, when renaming, the date is not updated in sequence. The file name is duplicated instead (for example: 01-06-2026 Sportsingel 01-06-2026 Sportsingel), which results in an error message.

The expected result should be:
01-06-2026 Sportsingel
02-06-2026 Sportsingel
03-06-2026 Sportsingel
and so on.

Could you please advise what I can do to resolve this issue?

I hope my explanation is clear. If you require any additional information, please let me know.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Kind regards,
Mark

Hi Mark,
Have you tried using the Replace method?
For example:

Replace: -05-
Replace with: -06-

----

If you show us the method you used to rename the files, some users on this forum will certainly be able to help you understand the error message.

Welcome Mark,

You did not say what method you tried but a simple "Renumber" method should get you started and works.

Set:
Number position: --> 2
Change to: --> Relative to existing number
Number difference: --> 1
Handle negative numbers --> *not checked*
Zero padding: --> Automatic
Apply to: --> Name

See: https://imgur.com/a/DZ0WdCO

Note that June only has 30 days but I've renumbered as you specified. ;)

Regards,
Randy

ETA PS: I did not see Styb's post until I had submitted mine. His method works but only for that one set of 31 files (which may be sufficient).
Styb, Randy W, thank you for the message.

I tried your messages but nothing worked.

I have now included a link with an image so you can see what I did.

Mark,

That image is not what you said you wanted in your first post, nor is it what either Styb, nor myself, suggested!

Please do the following:
1) Completely clear your method list.

2) Create a renumber (Hernummeren) method exactly as I specified above.

3) Create a second step in your batch (Methoden hernoemen) using a Replace (Vervang) method.

4) Set its parameters to:
Replace: Sportsingel
Replace with: 5e Zuid

That batch should rename based on your first post modified by your image's information.

Regards,
Randy
Randy W thank you for the message.

Randy W my apologies for the confusion.

English is not my native language and that is Dutch I am doing the translation with Google Translate
I will do my best to explain it I have added a new photo:

If you look at the photo you see
https://imgur.com/a/FYsGURi

current filename:
01-05-2026 Sportsingel
02-05-2026 Sportsingel
03-05-2026 Sportsingel
04-05-2026 Sportsingel

The error message I get is the possibility of multiple files with the same name. That is because the date is incorrect, as it says:
01-06-2026 Sportsingel
01-06-2026 Sportsingel
01-06-2026 Sportsingel
01-06-2026 Sportsingel

What it should be
New filename:
01-06-2026 Sportsingel
02-06-2026 Sportsingel
03-06-2026 Sportsingel
04-06-2026 Sportsingel,

before my PC crashed, the date just ran consecutively from 1 to 31; back then I only changed the date and location (as above).

Thank you everyone for helping

The problem shown in that second picture (set) is that you still have a "New Name" (Nieuwe naam) method!!

Delete that method from your batch and the renumbering will work.

Randy
Randy W, thank you for the message.

I did what you said and it indeed worked with the 4 files at the top. I added another photo with 31 files in it; I don't have an error message. What am I doing wrong now?

What is the problem?

All of the files in that picture are being renumbered as you wished.

I see a lot of "copy" files, but those were created before/outside of Aren.

So, what is the problem shown in this latest image?
Randy W, thank you for the message.

How do I get that new filename

for example 01-06-2026 Sportsingel in every document, only so that the date runs consecutively, for example 01-06-2026 Sportsingel 02-06-2026 Sportsingel etc etc.

Are you saying you want the files renamed like this? :
02-06-2026 Sportsingel.docx --> 01-06-2026 Sportsingel.docx
03-06-2026 Sportsingel.docx --> 02-06-2026 Sportsingel.docx
04-06-2026 Sportsingel.docx --> 03-06-2026 Sportsingel.docx
31-05-2026 Sportsingel - kopie (2) - kopie.docx --> 04-06-2026 Sportsingel.docx
31-05-2026 Sportsingel - kopie (2).docx --> 05-06-2026 Sportsingel.docx
31-05-2026 Sportsingel - kopie (3) - kopie.docx --> 06-06-2026 Sportsingel.docx
31-05-2026 Sportsingel - kopie (3).docx --> 07-06-2026 Sportsingel.docx
31-05-2026 Sportsingel - kopie (4) - kopie.docx --> 08-06-2026 Sportsingel.docx
31-05-2026 Sportsingel - kopie (4).docx --> 09-06-2026 Sportsingel.docx
31-05-2026 Sportsingel - kopie (5) - kopie.docx --> 10-06-2026 Sportsingel.docx
31-05-2026 Sportsingel - kopie (5).docx --> 11-06-2026 Sportsingel.docx
etc., etc.

Are the files all identical?
Randy W, thank you for the message.

Yes, that is correct, the files are identical.

Thank you everyone for helping.

Okay,that changes things.

So, all you need to do is:

1) Clear out all previous methods in your "Renaming methods" batch

2) Create a new "New name" (Nieuwe naam) method.

3) Set New name: to "<Inc Nr:01>-06-2026 Sportsingel" ( Copy and Paste that but without the quotes )

That should work if my understanding of your process is now correct.

Note that <Inc Nr:01> is an auto-numbering tag.

Randy
