PROBLEM: TV Import has been removed from product
EXPECTION: Features are not removed from paid products FEATURE REQUEST: Please restore this standout feature for Advanced Renamer. It was a significant reason I paid for a license for this tool, and without it the tool has no real value to me. Looking in the forum, for the product I see this was done months ago, but the release notes make no mention of the feature having gone away that I can find. There do appear to be a number of updates in the most current version but they are not meaningful for my usage of this tool |

I do no longer wish to support this feature, which is why it has been removed. I do sell licenses for this program, but they are sold on very fair terms. You pay a low one time fee for a life time license. During that time you are free to upgrade to any new version, but also, I will not guarantee any useful upgrades for you in that time and I have the right to take the product in any direction I see fit. The removal of this feature is mentioned on the "What's new" page, in the version log, and there was a notice about the upcoming feature removal from before summer. You are free to use any version prior to the newest version for as long as you want. That version will probably work fine for the next 10 years. As you mention, you don't have any use of the new additions in the latest versions, so why even bother upgrading? You can also have multiple versions installed. I will not reimplement this feature. Buuuut ... if I get to upgrade the JavaScript engine from the current light weight version to a full JS engine, it might be possible to extend the functionality of Advanced Renamer through JS plugins. But I am not promising anything. It is just an idea I have had. It might also end up a security nightmare - I don't want that. |

Will be interesting to see if the JavaScript comes about. Thanks for considering it. |

I was just speaking to a colleague about utilities that are essential to every windows install. My recommendations were voidtools everything search and Advanced Renamer. I'm hard pressed to continue that recommendation after the removal of the TV show naming feature. I used it quite frequently. I'm sure for a lot of users the app is used entirely for that function. Almost as soon as you removed it users were complaining. Others that don't know it once existed are posting requests to have the feature added. Maybe it's a difficult feature to maintain, but then again maybe it's worth it. Sounds like you're planning on doing some major refactoring, if not I can't imagine including the feature is an insurmountable task. After all, you said the old versions will continue to function for a decade. It was a good idea to include it. It's still much needed. Please reconsider. |

Completely agree with you. Both programs are essential in Windows. I still recommend AR even without the TV show renaming feature. For those of you who miss that feature you can continue using version 3.88 or perhaps try a program like "Rename my TV Series". Check it out https://www.tweaking4all.com/home-theatre/rename -my-tv-series-v2/ |

I notice you said "You can also have multiple versions installed." Are there any instructions to having that accomplished, as I too very much miss the TV program functionality and upgraded not realizing it would be removed. :( |

You can download and extract the portable edition of any version of Advanced Renamer from this page: https://www.advancedrenamer.com/download_older Just make sure to extract it to a folder with write permissions. Otherwise you will not be able to save your settings. |

Would it be easier to add the ability to invoke an external executable (with a parameter list that can be constricted from tags) and set a custom, user-defined tag from its output? That way, your users wouldn't necessarily have to learn how to write custom javascript, and may even be able to find an existing tool that does what they need (e.g. ffprobe, mediainfo CLI, etc.) |

I am also a paid up user of ARen. After spending quite a bit of time finding out that TVImport is not available in 3.92, I have lost my only reason for using the app. I could go back to a previous version that does support TVImport but it goes against the grain to use software that is not up to date. After some research I found FileBot. While it costs US$6.00 per year, it is fairly simple to use, more powerful with creating folders and subfolders and is still being developed. It can be downloaded at https://www.filebot.net/download.html |

Thanks for the recommendation. I think my initial comment was probably too harsh, I'll continue recommending AR even without the episode naming feature. |
