Hi Kim and everyone,
I've been using the Move/Copy batch modes more lately, and I'm wondering if it's possible to convince you of the idea of changing the working of these modes such that the items in the method list get executed before the files are relocated. Right now I have to execute a batch rename, then either 1) reload the files into another instance of ARen with the Move instructions and execute that; or 2) activate my methods, execute them in rename mode, then reload the files into the same ARen instance, change to move mode, and execute again. Yes, I know I can go into Settings and tell ARen to reload the files automagically, but that's a global setting and most of my renaming doesn't need that. (Another possible change: make the reload files setting local to the .aren file settings?) I know it may not sound like much, but if I run that batch every day (and then I have to run another one to re-rename the files back to the original version), I'm starting to eat up some time; I don't know, but I assume that at least some of your business users also do something similar. I suggest a checkbox near the Batch mode: and Output folder: fields; it could just be as simple as "Execute methods before:". If not checked, current behavior; if checked, method list gets executed before copy/move. A better way, for me would be to have a move/copy method that would allow the execution of the move/copy at any point in a method batch, but that is probably not something you'd want to get into due to the complexity. But that would be ideal, at least for my purposes. Anyway, food for thought? Best regards, DF |

I don't think I understand the issue. Before any file operation is performed, the program will calculate the new names and new folder locations for all items in the list. It's actually the same code that's generating the names for the new name column, just with a flag not to instruct the operating system to rename, move, or copy. |

Sorry, I may not be communicating clearly. I'll work up an example or two and get them to you. Best, DF |

Well, Kim, all I can say is I must have been on crack the day I wrote that. :) You are right, of course, the name changes according to the method list on the files that I moved. Well, I'm old enough that I guess I can just claim onset senility and call it a day... That's embarrassing. Sorry to pester you. Now get back to work! :) Best regards, DF |
