Still analyzing files after changing settings

Advanced Renamer's (3.95) analysis for image and video files occurs before the files are displayed in the file browser. The duration of this analysis (of file metadata) tends to be lengthy, taking a minute or more for 500 files on a fast SSD.

To avoid this delay, I attempted to disable analysis based on forum posts here, none has been successful. I would be grateful for whatever guidance the community could offer.

Here are my settings that I believe are relevant to disabling analysis:

Columns [for Advanced Renamer's file browser]
Filename - Extension - New filename - Path - Error

Settings - Program tab
[UN-checked] Show file info panel
[UN-checked] Show image preview in file info panel

Settings - Image files tab
[checked] Don't analyze image metadata

Settings - Music & Video files tab
[checked] Don't analyze music metadata
[checked] Don't analyze video metadata

ExifTool 12.87 installed

Hi Intelligo,

I think there may be something going on with your computer. I have a Dell laptop with Intel i9 processor, it's fairly quick but the processor is several generations old. I bought it pre-covid. Running on a Samsung 1Tb SSD I just loaded 940 files, clicked on the "Filename" column head to reverse sort, then clicked again to sort back into ascending order. That whole process took something like 12 seconds.

These were just standard .jpg files, so if you are loading/processing another type file this may mean nothing, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

Oh, I also have four desktops, probably 8 different instances of ARen, Thunderbird, a *whole* bunch of Firefox windows and a very thorough anti-malware package running, as well as text editor, clipboard manager/notetaker, and a few LibreOffice Calc instances. And the ARen instance I loaded the files into has 37 methods, all active.

My laptop has been up maybe four to five days (since that last Windows update) and needs to be restarted for best performance.

Best,
DF

Thanks, DT! My computer is a desktop and only a few years old, with plenty of threads and RAM. I'll check if anything is happening outside of AR.

I was having problems with file analysis taking a long time especially when adding files from a network drive (like a NAS).

I just installed the 4.0 beta and did a test by adding 5500 files and it analyzed them in 7 seconds.

Might be worth trying 4.0 to see if it speeds things up. 4.0 Also seems to have a new "don't analyze documents" checkbox which might also help.

You know, I was running AR on a network drive based in a NAS and it was taking ages to analyze. I'll try 4.0 when it's released Thanks for the hint!
