Bug in 4.0

First a question:
Is it possible to install 3.95 and 4.0 Beta Parallel?? I couldn't do it.

I can confirm that drag & drop not works in ARen v4.0 beta

Also do I miss in the settings the possibility to change the background color as in v3.95,
Auto, Light and Dark.

Changing the language in the settings and restarting ARen maintains the English language.

I notified Kim by mail about this.

I forgot in my prior reply to mention that I do not use the installer but the zip file, so I use on the same computer ARen v3.95 and v4.0 beta.

Hi guys,

I've been using 4.0b all day and have had no problems drag&dropping folders or files. Maybe I misunderstand the problem?

Also to the first problem, I loaded up some directories with files in them and was able to change and add methods at will. Again, maybe I misunderstand the problem.

You are right, the list can be changed

Drag and drop I mean: Drag the e.g. The folder "Downloads" and Drop it the Renamfolder. That doesn't work

Hi all.
Same here.
I can´t change the language.
Drag & drop not work from the Folder Panel. Work from Windows Explorer but slower.
I can´t find the the "Color mode" option.
The show grid doesn´t work til you add files. Then appear only in sourronding the files names.
This problem affects both, the installer and portable version.

I think "Case sensitive" doesn't work. It's default and mark or not marked, has no effect

Not sure what methods you tried but I find Case sensitivity to work in Replace and List Replace methods at least. Haven't tried it anywhere else, although there's a good chance I use it in some of my production batches and I haven't noticed problems there either.

Guys, can I make a suggestion? I think that if you find something you think is a bug in 4.0b you first report it to Kim through email support. Give it some time before contemplating posting it on the forum, and if you do decide to post it here use a different thread for each bug that you think you've found. Make it clear in the title what you will be discussing in the thread, and include all the possible information in your description of the possible bug. Otherwise I think the forum is going to be even more unwieldy and unmanageable to navigate.

Your suggestion has also a disadvantage. If everyone thinks a not reported Bug to send to Kim, will overlast him. I think it is better to discuss bugs in forum first and maybe one (e.g. YOU)send an email direct to Kim.

I compare the two versions in the moment and use the old version (3.95 is not really old, but running nearly perfect for me) as first with the 4.0B. But the 4.0b is faster loading and the look and feel is great. that will make it.
I will wait till the first update of the 4.0Beta

I see your point. But what I'm trying to do is keep the forum from being overrun with "Bug in 4.0 beta" posts. If the forum software allowed for different areas of content, like most do, that wouldn't be a problem - we'd just have an area devoted to discussion of 4.0b. But as it is, the forum is the first line of support for anyone learning ARen, regex, scripting, etc. The more we fill it with bug reports the harder it gets to answer questions and for the OPs to find their original post thread. I'm not dead set against what you suggest, I just think we would POSSIBLY do a disservice to those seeking help.

As to the amount of email Kim gets, the number of users that email him with problems is in itself a useful metric as to the seriousness/prevalence of a problem. Although I'm pretty sure he reads everything on the forum anyway, it might be a useful quantifier.

As I say, I'm certainly flexible on this, and I have no power to control anyone (nor would I want it! :). It just seems logical to me from a logistical standpoint. U do U my friend! :)

Oh, I went back and double checked and Case sensitivity absolutely works for me in a Replace method, for example:
I load a file named "x for For x.jpg"
REPLACE:
TTBR: <space>For<space>
RW: <space>for<space>

With case sensitivity off, nothing changes. I click it on and the filename becomes "x for for x.jpg"

Please show me the method you are using and the filename. Are you using other methods before or after that might change the outcome?

You are right and that makes sense.
Maybe Kim could do an extra area for test experience and proposal or wishes.

Probably my bad English let me missunderstand you (I'm a 74 year old German)

Your are also right: Case sensitive works correctly. I used the method in a long list and it was changed in one of the following metods.
The failure was between my earphone -;)

In future I will first THINK and Test before I WRITE.

I have fixed a couple of issues which will be released in a updated beta, maybe next week.

Language could be changed on Windows

Replace method has a couple of issues when using regular expressions:
Case sensitivity checkbox has no effect
Changing case with \U1 as replacement pattern doesn't work. This will work in the next release: \U$1
When replacement pattern is a group match but the group is not found in the search pattern it will replace it with $. This will be changed to replace it with empty string as in version 3

For color mode, right now it only responds to the setting of the operating system. There are no override for now. I might add it later.

You can no longer drag and drop from folder panel. Instead right click the selected items and click Add.
