I'm using Advanced Renamer to rename my MKV video files. I use the <Video Title> meta tag as the new filename.
Some video titles contain characters that are illegal in a filename. I know that I can configure a replacement character in "Settings" -> "Renaming" -> "Replace unsupported with". However, I would like to fine-tune this replacement: For example, I'd like to replace: " with ' : with ; Is there any way to do this with Advanced Renamer? I know that there is a Replace method but I think it only works for the original filename, not for the titles pulled from the meta tag. |

You can use the Replace method after setting the new name with the desired tag. There is no problem with using one method after another and finally starting the batch. |

Hi Christoph. Have you tried using List replace? https://www.advancedrenamer.com/user_guide/v3/me thod_listreplace |

I've just tried both Replace and List Replace, but it doesn't seem to work. In the method list, I have: 1. New Name: <Video Title> 2. Replace (or List Replace) It seems the illegal characters are removed (or globally replaced) right in the first step, so the Replace doesn't do anything. |

Hello Christoph, I've confirmed that, even in a script environment, the illegal characters are replaced or removed before they get returned, so no help there. It's still possible to tune the returned characters, you'll just need to take cues from the information surrounding the character (or from its overall place in the filename) to make your determination. If your filenames follow a pattern in general it shouldn't be that hard to create a method batch to deal with it. Without knowing your file title pattern, though, that's all I can say. Let us know if you need help with that process. Good luck, best wishes, DF |
