Good afternoon everyone,

I'm digitising my orchestra's sheetmusic library and I wondered if it is possible to change pdf names in a script.

After scanning the pdf's I now have to rename them by hand, for instance:

SCAN_2025_2_19_11_12_40_50430_part1.pdf = Directors Sheet
SCAN_2025_2_19_11_12_40_50430_part2.pdf= Soprano Saxophone
SCAN_2025_2_19_11_12_40_50430_part3.pdf= Alto Saxophone 1
SCAN_2025_2_19_11_12_40_50430_part4.pdf= Alto Saxophone 2
ect. ect.

Now I only use the add option to add the title of the piece at the end of every instrument but it would be wonderful if I could automate the whole process.

Is there anyone that could help me on this matter or is what I want not an option in the program?

With kind regards,

Hi Reijer,

Is there some way to relate the title that you are adding to what's already in the filename? Maybe that 5 digit number in the middle of the name? And is that all you want to do to the filename, or were you thinking about moving pieces of the name around, deleting things, adding other information?

Maybe you could give some examples of exactly what you'd like the files to look like when finished. Also, how many files do you think you'll end up with when done?

I have to tell you from the jump, though, that if there's no way to relate the information, like for instance a spreadsheet with the title name next to an id number that's also in the file, I think it's going to be tough to totally automate the process. Even without that, though, there's still some things you could do using a spreadsheet to create a list of titles that correspond to the files. ARen can easily deal with that possibility.

Best,
DF
